To be in a constant state of not knowing, forces you to stay in the moment and experience life unfolding. You experience the miracle of it. In painting, knowing a lot of techniques helps, but you are courting the unknown. It's like snorkeling. There are surprises in there. There's the planned and the unplanned, and finding the balance between them. You need both things going on, not just one. You don't really know if the caterpillar is going to go into the chrysalis, and come out again. You don't know. And when it does, and flies up into the sky, it is just thrilling. There's a nature to painting.
